Periodontitis – Risk Factor for Severe COVID-19 Course

Results of a current study show a connection between the presence of periodontitis and a severe course of COVID-19. Accordingly, COVID-19 patients with periodontitis have a higher risk, including for admission to the intensive care unit, than periodontally healthy COVID-19 patients.

In doing so, this study underscores the importance of periodontal health in terms of prevention and possibly even management of COVID-19 complications.
